About Us
In early 1927 William Long fell out with his father who owned the Emperor fruit store on Keswick's Main Street, William (Willi) was told ‘if you want to be the boss get your own shop’ Willi did and Ye Olde Friars was born.
A former Millinery Shop was converted into a café with a small chocolate/sweet counter and things stayed much the same until 1971.
At this time the café was closed and the business concentrated on locally produced chocolates and confectionery for which there was a growing demand from locals and visitors alike.
The business continued to grow with the addition of special gift ranges for Easter, Summer, Autumn and Christmas.
In 1989 the opportunity arose to buy the Central Hotel next door and the size of the shop was doubled.
With the increased ranges including chutney, preserves, biscuits and exclusive gifts the business continued to grow.
With the 4th generation now involved our unique selection of food and gift products is now available on the internet.
